Johnny Laster Sr. was born in Ocilla, Georgia, and raised in Miami, Florida. He cultivated a love of learning and adventure in a 21-year career with the U.S. Army, traveling the world from Germany to France to Switzerland and beyond. While stationed in Europe, Johnny volunteered to work with U.S. Military Dependent Youth Associations after-school programs. He also volunteered to work with U.S. Military/Foreign Military Dependent Youth Associations in Seoul, South Korea. For over 30 years, he has been helping children reach their full potential and inspiring them always to do their best and to “Never Give Up.” Johnny currently lives in the Dallas, Texas, area. He enjoys spending time with his family, who all love to hear his stories. The Smarter Raven is his first children’s book.
